Sarcina prelungită - studiu statistic pe 50 de cazuri
Postmature birth - a study of 50 cases

B. A. Riga

Abstract: The aim of this study was to assess the maternal and fetal outcome in prolonged or post-term pregnancies. This study has been realized at the Clinical Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology “Prof. Dr. Panait Sirbu” on 50 cases of prolonged pregnancies between 1 january 2003 and 30 june 2007. There were analyzed major characteristics of patients and maternal and fetal outcomes. There were recorded 5 cases of fetal demise, 20 cases presenting sings of fetal distress, 5 cases of severe anoxia, 15 signs of postmaturity, 1 case of neurological impairment, and only 4 cases with no postmaturity signs. The first few days after delivery are the most critical, but infants living beyond that period have a high survival rate. A postmature child will have slightly less colored to gray eyes, as compared to a healthy newborn. Postmature birth is one critical clinical condition regarding poor maternal and fetal outcomes. This is explained partially by the placental insufficiency and also by obstetrical injury of postmature fetuses during labor.
Keywords: postmature birth, underweight, fetal distress, neurological impairment
